Have you ever had anything new and unexpected happen? I just became an uncle (again) and it's exciting!
One of our co-founders had a baby boy earlier this week which was three weeks earlier than the family and especially mom and dad expected. Of course, we knew for months now that we'd have a new addition to the family, but we were more prepared for a "May baby" rather than a "mid-April" baby, BUT GOD brings new life in His perfect timing, not ours.
Waking up Sunday morning to a slew of texts about "water breaking," "getting epidural," "ready to push," was confusing and then ultra exciting! I realized -- IT WAS TIME! Though I am 1000 miles away from the delivery room, I was just as excited and nervous as I would have been if I were in the waiting room with a stuffed animal and a onesie in a gift bag!
Then at 10:36 am Mountain Time, the text popped up with a picture of my new nephew, Joshua. I tell you the combination of emotions of elation, wonder and relief all hit me at the same time! I rushed to show the rest of the family in the house and couldn't wait to FaceTime my brother, sister-in-law and their new bundle of joy.
My mom, was so excited to see her new grandbaby. I could see her love for him in photos and videos as she held him for the first time. I wish my father, who has passed, could see him, hold him and give him a silly nickname. His older brother seemed to have every emotion when meeting him and probably wondered “is this who my mommy and daddy have been telling me about for all this time?”
Joy. That's what I felt. Joy that God, thorough his unmatched love, created this new life. God wove a whole new person from nothing, into something. From thought into reality. Through this birth, He literally created a new life.
Through Jesus' birth, perfect life, death and resurrection 3 days later, He gives us hope for a new life with him. A life that isn't always sunshine and rainbows, but a life filled with love, joy and hope for tomorrow. Easter Sunday is a day that brings new life. A rebirth.
I wish we could have been in town for the birth of our nephew to give him a hug and shower him with gifts. One day we will. Until then, I am just in awe of this "new life" and put my hope in God for his future.
