Everything's Gonna Be Alright
"Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."
Philippians 4:6-7

Today's Insights
I woke up this morning and the title of the devotional was the first thing on my mind. I don't know why, but I needed to get this off my chest so someone else could hear it. The verse above is one of my favorite passages from the bible when Paul told the Philippians in chapter 4 to not be anxious about anything, but being thankful for your blessings and a quick prayer, God's peace would calm their hearts and minds.
I have dealt with some very tough times in my life and had a lot of fear, anxiety, frustration and had no clue what the next moment would hold, let alone the future. One of those times was my first ever flight. I was 18 and travelling to try to win a scholarship for college. I had a terrible fear of heights (still do), and was deathly afraid to fly. I mean, a metal tube floating 300 miles an hour 33,000 feet in the air and me not having control over turning, stopping, etc.? I was a ball of nerves!
When my mother, Mary, who was on the flight with me, directed me to this chapter of the bible, fear had it's TIGHTEST grip on me! I read this over and over in that moment, thought about how extremely blessed I was to have a loving family, a job, warmth, food and a sound mind. I sent up a quick prayer and thanked God, then asked Him to help me through this time. I calmed down and was able to board the plane, take deep breaths to calm down and actually had an enjoyable flight. (They bumped us to first class because a minor was in the exit row) I came out alright on the other side of the fear in the situation I was facing. I made it through. Not sure how, but I definitely feel it was God's peace calming me in those moments. Now, 20+ years later, I still read this chapter every time I fly.
Whatever things are going on in your life, they can be tough, frustrating, scary, annoying. Whether it's health, family, marriage, financial, friendship, work: Everything's gonna be alright. You can make it through, especially with God's peace comforting you and your loved ones.
Count your blessings. Did you wake up today? Blessing. Did you have coffee and a bite to eat? Blessing. Do you have anyone who you can call a true friend? Blessing. There are so many things that remind us how blessed we are.
Even if it seems impossible. Everything's gonna be alright.
Prayer
Dear God, thank you for this day and thank you for your peace. I know everything in life isn't easy. I know things can get scary and frustrating. I thank You for the peace that transcends all understanding. When I think about my blessings, both large and small, I feel comforted. Thank you for sending me that comfort. Please let me remember in my times of fear, frustration, annoyance and hopelessness to be thankful for these blessings and sent up a quick prayer. And in those time, please pour your peace over me. In Jesus' name. Amen.
